"Wyeth pharmaceutical has permission from the U. S. government (FDA)
to replace Effexor XR with Pristiq. Effexor XRs patent runs out in
2010. Pristiq will allow a patient to begin at a therapeutic dose of
50mg rather than have the patient work his or her way up to a
therapeutic amount. Pristiq is also not metabolized by the liver so it
will reduce drug interactions--making Pristiq available to people who
take various types of medications."
