Sr Scientist Computational Chemistry

In this senior scientist position, the candidate will play a
significant role in the generation of lead compounds for various
medicinal chemistry programs. In this role you will apply structure-
based design principles to guide chemistry efforts, with an emphasis
on utilizing docking techniques, developing fragment-based or scaffold-
hopping approaches. Assist in compound design and library design for
target- and class-specific hit generation. The individual will
collaborate/interact with a broad group of scientists within us and
with external collaborators. Close interactions with discovery
biology, translational medicine, exploratory pharmacology,
bioinformatics and formulation groups is expected. The candidate
should have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and
medicinal chemistry with an emphasis on in silica modeling and
design.

Requirements

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in synthetic organic or
medicinal chemistry with a minimum of 4 years of industrial or
postdoctoral experience, and have an excellent understanding of
protein-ligand interactions. An understanding of principles in
conformational analysis Expert use of commercial modeling software,
and the ability to mentor others in its use, will be expected.
Familiarity with medicinal chemistry software tools such as
Schrodinger, Accelrys, SciTegic, Pipeline Pilot, Spotfire,
ActivityBase, and Daylight is advantageous. Knowledge of the Linux
operating system is desirable. Familiarity with the discovery and
advancement of IND-ready drug candidates, experience with patenting
and publishing, and a "lead-by-example" drug discovery approach is
desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are
required.

* Ph.D. in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry * 2 - 4 years of
relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or academic environment *
Proven track record of innovation including peer-reviewed publications
and/or patents * Ability to work independently and ability to interact
with a multidisciplinary team of medicinal chemists, biologists,
pharmacologists and external collaborators. * Experience with
structure-based drug design. * Excellent oral / written communication
and presentation skills * Flexibility to work in a dynamic
environment
