If I've understood this correctly, tryptophan is converted to 5-
hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) by tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) and then to
serotonin by amino acid decarboxylase (DCC). Apparently the rate-
limiting step in this reaction is the amount of TPH available.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find much information on TPH.
Does anyone have any information on how TPH is synthesized, if it can
be increased and what the result of such an increase would be?
